Bicker Fen 400KV Substation Extension Project Scope

Bicker Fen was a challenging Project made up of several stages in a very tight time frame. The project involved converting two teed transformer feeders into a new 400KV Double Busbar Substation incorporating 11 bays of AIS switchgear.

Stage 1

Outage works on Walpole / West Burton 2 / SGT2 circuit

  • Commission 6 new bays AIS switchgear including Alstom Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Earth Switches, CT’s and VT’s to create a new double busbar substation including 2 Feeders 1 SGT 1 Bus Coupler 2 Main Bus Section Reserve Bus Section.
  • Commission new Alstom Walpole Feeder Protection.
  • Recommission Modified Alstom SGT2 Protection and Modified Alstom West Burton 2 Protection.
  • Commission new ABB Busbar Protection.  
  • Commission new Alstom Bus Coupler and Bus Section Protection.
  • Commission new Alstom Substation Control System.

Stage 2

Outage works on Spalding North / West Burton 1 / SGT1 circuit Main Bus section and Reserve Bus Section to transfer next teed circuit into double bus and connecting to Main Bar and Reserve Bar.

  • Commission 3 new bays AIS switchgear including Alstom Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Earth Switches to create a new double busbar substation including 2 Feeders 1 SGT 1.
  • Commission new Alstom Spalding North Feeder Protection.
  • Recommission Modified Alstom SGT1 Protection and Modified Alstom West Burton 1 Protection.
  • Extend and Commission ABB Busbar Protection.  
  • Extend and Commission Alstom Substation Control System.

Stage 3

Extend, Commission and energise future wind farm connection Triton Knoll 1 Bay on both Main bar and Reserve Bar 1. This bay included primary equipment only (CB’s Isolators Earth Switches CT’s VT’s) with Protection and Control to be done at later stage.

Stage 4

Extend, Commission and energise future wind farm connection Triton knoll 2 Bay on Main Bar 2 and Reserve Bar 2. This bay included primary equipment only (CB’s Isolators Earth Switches CT’s VT’s) with Protection and Control to be done at later stage.
